Week - Hebrew: Shavua (plural: Shevuim)
The Shavua is a 7 year Sabbatical cyce first established in the days of Joshua when God gave the Israelites the Holy Land. The first 6 years were for working the land, the 7th year the land was to lie fallow. The Jews have faithfully kept track of these 7 year cycles for thousands of years.
Each Shauvah starts at the beginning of a Jewish new year, which is celebrated as Rosh Hashanah, in the month of Tishrei. The Feast of Trumpets is also celebrated on the same day as Rosh Hashanah.
Tishrei begins in about Sept.-Oct. and is 30 days long.
The next two Sabbatical cycles to come begin: Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 2008 and Sept. 25-26, 2015
